— The VICTIVE Eye Institute in Florida has been hacked by ransomware that encrypts data, but researchers are hopeful the data will be recovered.
The state’s largest university says its computer network is fully functional after a wave of ransomware attacks.
VICTORIAN EYE INSTITUTE: The university says the breach is the first time the state has been affected by ransomware.
Officials are concerned that data stored on the institute’s network could be susceptible to a new attack.
If that happens, the institute will have to suspend all online classes, institute officials said.
As of Monday afternoon, the university’s website was unavailable.
It was also inaccessible to its employees and administrators.
This comes as the state braces for a second wave of attacks.
Officials have urged businesses to be cautious as they plan for a potential increase in ransomware.
