The cancer institute and the American proficiency institute announced Tuesday that Miguel Cabrera will receive $1,215 million in a new medical contract.
The new deal is worth $5,700 per game for the first three years of the deal.
It was announced in a statement from the American quality institute, which was set up by former baseball star and current Marlins pitcher Miguel Caballero.
Caballero, who is on the Marlins’ disabled list with a sprained right elbow, is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday.
He had previously announced plans to retire after the 2019 season, but that announcement was later changed.
Cabo’s deal was announced at the end of May and was set to run through the 2021 season.
The cancer institute said Cabrera will be eligible to play in MLB for the next four years, but will be restricted from playing in the National League.
The American proficiency Institute is set to begin its own medical research and treatment program for Cabrera in the United States in 2018.
