In a statement, the University of the Witwatersrand said it is committed to racial equality and diversity in all aspects of our university and will work with our partners to create the most inclusive environment for all our students and staff.
“We have a proud tradition of being a community of inclusion,” it said.
“This commitment includes a commitment to creating a climate where all people can thrive, be successful and thrive as citizens of our nation.”
The institute is currently in discussions with local university groups to provide funding for “a robust campus-wide dialogue about racial equality” that would be conducted on an “inclusive, diverse and equitable basis”.
In 2016, the university was also ranked among the top universities in the country for racial diversity and diversity of student experiences.
